Collection: Gail Kellett

Gail Kellett works from home in McLaren Vale on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Her ideas reflect the diversity of the region in which she lives- rural and urban landscape, native flora and agricultural machinery. She finds linocut printmaking a powerful medium- exciting and unpredictable. Her work is hand drawn straight onto the lino which gives it freshness, originality and spontaneity. Design is paramount to her style. She enhances the main image with bold elements in both the foreground and background. When hand-painting she often includes large areas of black and white which strengthen the composition. When cutting she utilises varying techniques to display texture and create energy. She uses water based Block Print Lamp Black Ink. Each piece is individually hand rolled and editions are normally 20 pieces depending on size. She hand paints usually in sets of 2 – 4. she uses acrylic paint to show bold, striking colourand finally sprays varnish to enhance the colours and protect the Canson-Ja paper.
